The Holy Trinity (Old testament)

The icon is one of the images of the Holy Trinity in the form of three angels at the table (cf. Genesis 18:1-15). According to the traditional interpretation, Abraham was given a revelation of one God in three persons in the form of three angels. St Gregorios Palamas said, "Abraham saw with the physical eyes the angels and spoke with the Savior, but he saw the Holy unisubstantial Trinity with the spiritual eyes." Such interpretation was the basis of the symbolic iconography of the Holy Trinity (in the form of Abraham's hospitality), which appears for the first time in Byzantine and Russian art in the late 14th century.

The feast of the Icon: 30th of March (the day of the feast of Saint John Lestvichnyk); in Eastern Churches the icon is remineded also on the 4th Sunday of the Great Lent, when his Ladder to Paradise is read in monasteries. Prayer tradition: believers before the icon contemplate the possibilities of their growth to moral perfection and set the goals of spiritual advancement
