PRAISE OF THE MOTHER OF GOD

The Icon Pokróva Presvjatýja Bohoródicy (The honour of the Holy Mother of God) comes from Russia from the second half of the 18th century. On the 5th Saturday of the Great Lent the feast of Eastern Christians is celebrated, which has the same name as the icon. Akhatist, a celebratory Marian hymn in honour of the triple intervention of the Mother of God to save the city of Constantinople from enemies, is sung. Akhatist celebrates the dignity of the Mother of God, the instrument of Christ's incarnation.
