The celebration in honour of the Icon of the Mother of God of Jerusalem takes place every year on October 12th (October 25th according to the Julian calendar).

The testimonies of this feast date back to the 3rd century, since the homily of Palm Sunday by Bishop Methodius Patarski († 300) has been preserved. The celebration of the feast began at first in Jerusalem and soon spread to the whole Eastern Church and to the Western (Latin) Church in the 6th to 7th centuries.
