There is no consensus among the church fathers on the icon of Wisdom. Some of them, including Saint Augustine and Saint Ambrose, consider Jesus Christ to be the central figure of this icon. According to Saint Ignatius, however, the central figure of the icon is the Mother of God. With faith, we can say that the icon of God's Wisdom is an image of spiritual mystery.

The first icons of the Last Judgement come from Byzantium in the 4th century. At that time, the Last Judgment was portrayed as a parable of ten virgins or as a separation of sheep and goats. Today's understanding arose a little later, at the end of the 8th century. The idea later came to Russia, where it further developed. The oldest preserved Russian icon of the Last Judgement is from the 15th century and is located in the Uspenski Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin.
